Chapter 18 "Kill or Be Killed"

マシン心臓部

Serrano : If you've made it this far, you are now deep in the heart of the Machine. From here, there appear to be two primary configuration points - one to the west that you have no doubt already activated and another to the North. If they can all be properly composed - well, to be honest, I don't exactly know what will happen. The only advice I can offer is this: be observant. The clues are out there.

• もしここまで到達した者がいるならば、あなたは今、マシン心臓部の奥深くにいます。ここからは、二つの主要な設計ポイントが望めます。ひとつは貴方が間違いなく既に起動させてきた西部ポイントで、もう一つ別の北部ポイントです。もしそれら全てを適切に構成出来ていれば...あー、正直に言うと私にも何が起こるのかわかっていません。私にできるアドバイスはこれだけです。「注意を払って下さい。手がかりは向こうにあります。」

Serrano: The invasive growth in this area has made it difficult to make much progress. Dig teams continue to get caught in the ancient, sticky webbing. There is no doubt in my mind that the devices above are essential to the configuration of this alien Machine. Based on my observations of the alien script, it could be a sort of amplifier made to boost of signal or power source when properly aligned.

• このエリアにおける無数の侵食が、前進の阻害要因となりました。発掘チームが古代の粘着網に捕らわれ続けるのです。頭上に見える装置こそがエイリアンのマシンの設計において非常に重要な役割を果たすであろう事はもはや私の心にも疑い様がありません。私のエイリアンの言語鑑定によると、それを適切に整列すれば、信号もしくは動力源を高める一種の増幅器になるようです。

Isaac : Alright, just got the power aligned. Looks like it opened another activation terminal! We're getting closer to fixing this Machine, Carver.

• よし、動力を揃えてみたぞ。どうやらそれによって別の起動ターミナルが開いたみたいだ！Carver、俺達はマシンの修正へと近づいているみたいだ。

The Heart of the Machine

Danik : Isaac, what are you doing?

• Isaac、一体何をしている？

Isaac : Finishing something that should have been done a long time ago!

• 遠い昔に行われるはずだったある事を終える所さ！

Danik : Well, stop it! You're tampering with things you know nothing about!

• なっ、止めろ！何も知らないくせに手を出すな！

Isaac : Right back at you, jackass.

• そのままお返しするぜ、阿呆。

Carver : Well, you've successfully turned the city into a giant pretzel. Now what?

• よし、うまく都市を巨大なプレッツェルに変えたみたいだな。お次は？

Isaac : If Serrano's right, I should be able to return to the first activation point to enter the final setting.

• Serranoが正しければ、最終設定に入るために最初の起動ポイントへ戻れるようになっているはずだ。

Carver : What happens then?

• その後は何が起きるんだ？

Isaac : Hey, I work on spaceship. not alien machines.

• なぁ、俺は宇宙船で働いてたんだぞ。エイリアンのマシンじゃない。

Carver : Not alien machines. Right.

• エイリアンのマシンじゃない。わかってる。

Danik : This isn't the way, Isaac! There is a future for you! For all of us!

• その方法は間違っているぞ、Isaac！お前の為に未来がある！そう、皆の為に！

Isaac : Leave me alone, Danik.

• Danik、俺の事は放っといてくれないか。

Danik : You can see them again, Isaac. Everyone you've lost along the way! It's a future with no regrets!

• Isaac、貴様はもう一度出会うことが出来るんだぞ。道中で失った全ての者に！それは一切の後悔が存在しない未来だ！

Isaac : I have no regrets, Danik. One way or another, this will all be over soon.

• Danik、俺は後悔などしていない。どちらにせよ、もうじき全てが終わるさ。

Danik : Isaac!

• Isaac！

最初のポイント～再度マシン心臓部へ

Danik : I know you think you're doing the right thing, but you are wrong, Isaac! You have to let me turn off the Machine!

• Isaac、貴様は自分が正しい行いをしているとでも思っているのだろうがそれは大きな間違いだ！私にマシンを止めさせろ！

Danik : My reinforcements have arrived... with a big surprise.

• 増援部隊が到着した...大きなサプライズと共にな。

Ellie : Isaac?! ISAAC!!!

• Isaac？！ISAAC！！！

Isaac : Ellie?! You're alive? But how did you...

• Ellie？！生きていたのか？だが一体どうやって...

Ellie : I escaped through the delivery tubes, but they caught me! Isaac, they're going to cut you off at the..Ahhh! Let go of me!

• 配送管を通って脱出したけど奴らに捕まってしまったの！奴らは貴方を..ああああ！離して！

Danik : Shut up, heretic!

• 黙れ、この異端者が！

Ellie : Ahh!

• あああ！

Isaac : I have the Codex, Danik! If you want it, you'll have to find me!

• Danik、コデックスは俺が持っている！もし欲しければ俺を見つけてみるんだな！

Danik : No I won't. You're heading to the Machine. And when you get there, I'll be waiting.

• いいや、それには及ばないさ。貴様はマシンへと向かっているんだ。そこで待たせて貰うとするよ。

Isaac : Okay, now what? Three receptacles... Three statues... three markings. What's this final step?

• よし、次はこれか？三つの容器...三つの像...三つの模様。これが最終段階か？

Isaac : Alright Carver, another door just opened up. We've gotta be close to the control center for the Codex, we've done everything else Serrano said to do! I'm heading in."

• よし、Carver、別のドアが丁度開いた所だ。俺達はコデックスのためにコントロールセンターへ近づき、Serranoの言っていなかった事をやり遂げなくては！中へと入ってみる。

音声ログ: Serrano最後の記録

Dr.Serrano:Well, I've gone and busted my knee open. I suppose the Codex is in Mahad's hands by now, and this place is about to be buried, like everywhere else. I remember telling my college professor I wanted to study xenoarcheology. He laughed right in my face. There's nothing to study, he said. It's all dead space. No alian life exists out in the universe. In a way, I guess he was right. There is no life beyond our system, only a trail of extinction, wrought by the Moons. And now it's right on our doorstep. Well, above us lies the means of turning off the Machine, but also the means to complete it. Turning it off will finish our species, completing it will save us. I had hoped to be here to witness the saving part. It would have been spectacular to witness the Moon getting pulled into the planet and crushed to oblivion - a final act by the natives - a sacrifice to save us all. But now, I must rest. Perhaps Tim will be along soon with the Codex.

• ぐっ、膝を怪我した。今頃CodexはMahadの手の中にあり、そしてこの場所は他と同様に埋もれてしまうことだろう。私の大学の教授に、異星人考古学を学びたいと話した時のことは今も覚えている。教授は私の顔を見ながら吹き出したよ。彼は勉強するも何もない、と言った。全てはDead Spaceだと。エイリアンなどという生命体は宇宙には存在していない。私はある意味、教授は正しかったと思っている。私たちの星系の他には命は存在せず、あったのはMoonによる絶滅の跡だけだった。そして今私たちの玄関先にもそいつがやってきた、というわけだ。あぁ、私たちの頭上にはMachineを止める方法があるが、それ以外に完成させる方法もある。あれを止められたら人類は終わってしまう、あれを完成させることが出来れば私たち人類を救える。私は救う方の目撃者となるべくここに来た。惑星に引かれ、忘却に押しつぶされていくMoonの光景はさぞ素晴らしかったろう――それは原住民による最後の行為――そして全てを救う為の犠牲だった。だが私はもう駄目だ。恐らくTimもCodexと共に間もなく逝くことだろう。

Isaac : Ellie!

• Ellie！

Ellie : Isaac! Don't do it... don't listen to him...

• Isaac！渡しては駄目...耳を貸さないで...

Danik : Give me the Codex, and you can have her back.

• コデックスを渡せ、そうすれば彼女を解放してやろう。

Ellie : No! Isaac, you know what's at stake!

• 駄目よ！Isaac、何が問題か貴方も知っているでしょう！

Isaac : Ok, everybody calm down, okay? Danik, you can just...

• わかった、まずは落ち着いてくれ、いいか？Danik、お前は...

Danik : Give me the Codex...

• コデックスを渡せ...

Danik : Or I will kill her!

• さもなくば彼女を殺すぞ！

Isaac : No.

• 断る。

Carver : Isaac, what are you doing? You've got a second chance!

• Isaac、何をしている？今度は見捨てずに済むんだぞ！

Isaac : If he turns off the Machine, we're all dead - her, us, everyone!

• もし奴がマシンを止めてしまったら彼女や俺達だけでなく全人類が死んでしまう！

Carver : Don't let it all go dark, Isaac.

• Isaac、全てを投げ捨ててはいけない。

Carver : There's more than one kind of right.

• 正解は一つだけじゃないさ。

Isaac : No!

• 駄目だ！

Danik : I've done it! I've finally done it! The darkness is at an end! Let the evolution begin!

• やった！遂にやったぞ！暗黒の時代は終わりを告げる！さあ、進化の始まりだ！

Isaac : Ellie, when I finish this, it's all going down. Everything. You have to go.

• Ellie、俺がこれを終えた時、全てが崩壊する。全てだ。だから行ってくれ。

Carver : No! You two get outta here. Go back to Earth Space. Tell 'em what we found! I'm staying! It's all I got left!

• いいや！お前ら二人でここから逃げろ。地球圏へ帰るんだ。俺達が見つけた物を皆に知らせるんだ！俺が残る！俺に残った最後の仕事だ！

Isaac : You can't stop it, Carver! Not without me! I'm the Marker killer, remember?

• お前じゃ止められないぞ、Carver！俺無しじゃあな！俺はマーカー破壊者だ、忘れたか？

Ellie : Isaac -

• Isaac-

Isaac : I turned my back on the world because I was afraid of what needed to be done. Ellie, I'm not afraid anymore.

• 自分が必要とされるのが怖くて俺は世界に背を向けた。だけどEllie、俺はもう何も恐れない。

Isaac : There's a shuttle over there. I want you to take it and head for home.

• あそこにシャトルがある。これを持って帰還してくれ。

Isaac : Don't come back for me! We both know I'm not going home!

• 俺の為に戻ってきたりなんてしないでくれよ！俺が生きて戻ることができないのはお互いもう分かってる筈だ！

Isaac : Go!

• 行け！
